The driver’s license test contains a total of 25 questions. To pass you will need to answer at least 20 questions correctly (80%).

After Passing the NC DMV Test

If you are under 18 years of age, you will receive a learner’s permit after passing the written test.

With a learners permit you can practice driving when accompanied by a licensed adult who has had a license for at least 5 years and is sitting next to you while driving.

If you are over 18 and are applying for your first driver’s license, you can take the driving test after passing the written test and receive your driver’s license without standard restrictions.

How long do you have to have a learner’s permit for if you are under 18?

If you are under 18, you will have to keep your learner’s permit for at least 12 months before taking your road test and receiving a provisional driver’s license.

Is the NC written knowledge test hard?

If you spend time studying the official driver’s handbook, reviewing the traffic signs and their meanings, and taking some free NC permit practice tests, you should have no problem passing your real exam.

How many correct questions do you need to get correct to pass the test?

You must get an 80% score (20 correct questions) in order to pass the NC permit test.

How old must you be to apply for a driver’s license in North Carolina?

In order to move on from the permit phase, you’ll need to pass the driving skills test.
