Drinking and driving is a serious problem for driving any type of vehicle. However, driving drunk in a commercial vehicle is extremely dangerous.

The only way to sober up after drinking is time.

It takes time for your body to process that alcohol that you’ve consumed.

The liver can process about ⅓ an ounce of alcohol per hour, which is less alcohol than what’s found in most standard drinks.

The only way to sober up is time.

It is illegal to drive a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) with a BAC (blood alcohol concentration) of .04% or more.

If you are found driving a CMV with a BAC of .04% or more, you will lose your CDL for at least 1 year for a first offence. A second offense will result in a CDL disqualification for life.

If you have any detectable amount of alcohol under .04%, you will be put out-of-service for 24 hours.

You can find more information about this topic in the section of your official driver’s handbook.
